West Gore is an innovative primary school, providing high-quality learning within a safe, engaging and caring environment.
Our learning programmes allow us to best meet the needs of everylearner. We believe that children learn best when provided opportunities to learn through their own passions and strengths. We value student voice and provide many opportunities for children to make choices in their learning. We also have a range of digital tools that we integrate throughout the school to enhancelearning.
Our community and whānau take an important role and are encouraged to walk alongside the teaching staff through their child’s schooling.
As a Positive Behaviour for Learning School, we use restorative practices to strengthen relationships and create positive learning environments to support our students. Our strong leadership and experienced teaching team are further supported by Life Education, a Gifted and Talented Specialist, Sports Activator and many other initiatives to ensure a balanced curriculum for all.
Located in West Gore,Southland, our school is a state-funded, decile six, Year 1-6 primary school, with a roll of approximately 180 students.
Students at West Gore learn in three specialist areas that are structured to support each individual student as their learning progresses. The sense of family and community that we foster promotes learning and student wellbeing and provides students with opportunities to stand tall.
We believe that everyone has the right to develop self-worth. Learners with self-worth are confident, motivated towards their learning, prepared to take risks, resilient and respectful in every way.
We believe our students will grow by developing the strategies, skills and knowledge to become lifelong learners.
We believe that by accepting and interacting positively with others, we can create a sense of belonging that will support our learners and encourage growth. Our whole community takes responsibility for growing our children.
"There is a strong culture of inclusiveness and positivity throughout the school. The principal and teachers focus on developing and caring for the 'whole child'. They foster a safe learning environment that supports students to be able to enjoy and take risks with their learning. Students benefit from the caring and respectful relationships they have with their teachers and school leaders."
"Students and teachers know that the school is 'their place to grow'."
