Our School & GroundsWe are a decile six, coeducational primary school with a role of around 250 pupils from New Entrants to Year 6. Located in the western part of Gore, our school grounds and a range of facilities nearby offer a range of experiences for our students.
Our students learn in three main classroom blocks; a well-resourced library; hall; junior and senior playgrounds; and tennis netball and basketball courts. We utilise the adjoining Newman Park sports grounds and are within walking-distance to the Gore Multi-sports Complex. Cultural OpportunitiesAt West Gore School children have access to a variety of cultural involvement. This includes an active Kapa Haka and choir who perform at events throughout the year. As part of the curriculum children are immersed with, and specifically taught, the skills of Music, Drama and Dance. In Music children learn about everything from reading music to playing a variety of instruments. Drama involves specific lessons, presentation nights and school productions, and is incorporated within our Literacy programme. Dance is incorporated through Fitness, specific lessons and the opportunity to take part in forums such as Jump Jam and the annual ballroom dance competition. All of our learners have the opportunity to attend a variety of visiting performers and artists they would not normally have access to, with the objective being to expose them to cultural and artistic experiences. |
Sporting OpportunitiesWe at West Gore School have a commitment to foster and encourage participation as well as excellence in sport. Our Students are involved throughout the year, both in school and club organised sport. Being a member of a team is a great discipline and ties so well with our school values, resilience, respect and responsibility. Our children love their sporting opportunities and we encourage them in having a go. All our parents that help out are volunteers and we celebrate parents offering to take on these roles because they enable all children to participate. West Gore recognises that sporting activities play an important part in helping students reach their full potential and give students the opportunity to participate in a wide variety of sports and sporting activities such as Touch, Rippa Rugby, Miniball, Cricket. West Gore participates in the annual School's Netball Tournament and Rippa Tournament in Invercargill. We also promote the other sport clubs such as Soccer, Netball and Hockey to ensure all sports are covered. We offer something for everyone. Students have the opportunity to represent Eastern Southland and Southland. West Gore encourages personal fitness and healthy activities for all students. It's important to have a balance between sport and academic achievement. E-LearningOur students have access to a variety of e-learning tools. Each junior classroom has a set of tablets and the senior students benefit fro a range of devices, including streams, chrome books, tablets and laptops, to ensure a diverse understanding of technology. All classrooms have interactive whiteboards. |
